The Asia Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (AAMLS) was inaugurated in Nagoya, Japan in 1997 representing medical laboratory scientists across Asia including Brunei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

The objectives of AAMLS are to elevate status of medical laboratory science in Asia and its neighbouring countries; to offer opportunities for exchange of information between countries; to enhance mutual understanding among medical scientists of member associations and work for mutual assistance and improvement of expertise technologies and to improve reliability on accuracy of medical laboratory tests through cooperation between countries.

The first AAMLS Congress was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in year 2001. The congress was originally held every 4 years – the 2nd congress in Shanghai, China in 2005, 3rd congress in Yokohama, Japan in 2009 and 4th congress in Singapore in 2013. It was then suggested by the AAMLS Board of Directors (BOD) that the congress to be a bi-annual event instead of every 4 years and subsequently an inaugural scientific conference of AAMLS was held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in 2015. The 5th AAMLS congress was held in Busan, Korea in 2017 and followed by the 6th congress in Pattaya, Thailand in 2019.

In year 2018, the AAMLS BOD has entrusted Malaysia (MIMLS) with the privilege to once again host the AAMLS Congress in year 2021 (postponed to 2023 due to the pandemic). We are extremely excited to welcome the 7th AAMLS Congress and our Asian colleagues back to Kuala Lumpur, which marked 2 decades since the first congress was held in Kuala Lumpur in 2001.
